Health, Sex & Relationship Education
INTENT
Our PSHE curriculum intends to: -
- Ensure that children are prepared for life and are able to maintain successful relationships and become active and responsible citizens.
- Help them to know and value who they truly are
- Help children to live a safe and healthy life.
- Understand how they can protect and enhance their wellbeing physically and mentally.
Our programme of health education is an integral part of our science and PHSE curriculum:
In KS1 we help the children to find out about themselves, how they grow, move and use their senses. They learn about how to maintain a healthy diet and lifestyle and to avoid harmful substances.
In KS2 we help the children to understand the functions of the major organs, together with the processes of breathing, circulation, growth and reproduction. Children are taught about the risks of harmful substances, the importance of a healthy diet and lifestyle good personal hygiene and good dental care
In Year 5, children are taught about changes that occur in the human body during puberty. In Year 6, children receive a program of sex and relationship education.
