Science

INTENT

Our science curriculum intends to:-

  • Inspire children to be inquisitive, curious and knowledgeable about the world around them.
  • Develop learners who are able to apply their scientific knowledge when investigating.
  • Develop learners who are able to build arguments and explain key concepts.
  • Teach children to be considerate of the uses and implications of science both today and in the future

All children will be taught the skills and knowledge of Science as outlined in the programmes of study in the National Curriculum for Science.

Science is about children developing a sense of enquiry and extending their knowledge and understanding of the world around them. It includes knowledge about Living Things, Materials, Physical Processes and the Earth and Beyond. Science is concerned with investigation and in this school, children use investigations to add to their knowledge of how the world is constructed. Throughout the school, children are given opportunities to develop the scientific skills of observing, predicting, hypothesising, recording and drawing conclusions.

Edina Trust

We have been successful in obtaining a science grant from the Edina Trust which provides grants for primary schools to fund a science project. We received a £300.00 cheque to spend on resources.

We are trying to create more opportunities for the children to learn about science through practical interaction and learning through exploration rather than by theory such as simulations on the internet or demonstrations by the class teacher which in turn leads to the need for an increasing number of practical resources.
