History

INTENT

Our history curriculum intends to: -

  • Ensure that children are curious about and understand Britain’s past and that of the wider world.
  • Enable children to research further, to question what they've learnt and the reliance of historical sources
  • Develop an awareness of their place in the wider world, making comparisons between their lives today and other civilisations
  • Develop an understanding of different historical periods, with a ‘mental timeline’ of the post.

All children will be taught the skills and knowledge of History as outlined in the programmes of study in the National Curriculum for History.

History is our record of what happened in the past and why. It involves children in studying men, women and children in different societies, cultures and countries. Through history, children can begin to learn and understand something about the past and its influence on life today. Our chief aim is that our pupils will enjoy history and develop a curiosity about the past, which informs an understanding of the present.

In KS1 the children will investigate changes in their own living memory and events behond living memory such as the Great Fire of London. They will learn about the lives of significant individuals in the past and aspects of life in different periods.

In KS2 children will develop knowledge about Britain from the Stone Age to the Iron Age, the Roman Empire and its impact on Britain and Britain's settlement by Anglo-Saxons and Scots.
